June 2008
Ecotricity
Shooters Bottom, Somerset
500 tonne Liebherr crane used for wind turbine installation |
Our 500 tonne Liebherr crane was just the job when Ecotricity wanted to put up a 70m wind turbine at Shooters Bottom in Somerset. Although it’s just one turbine, this will provide enough electricity for up to 2,000 local homes.
Getting this massive structure up and in place was a complex job, but the Liebherr LTM1500 and our team were more than up to it. The crane was first rigged on a 135 tonne counterweight and a guyed main boom for the erection of the tower sections. The heaviest sections weighed 53 tonnes! Next we reconfigured the crane before adding a 42m luffing fly to lift the 51 tonne generator and the hub and blades into place. |
