450 tonne Grove Crane |
Ainscough’s Scottish operation, James Jack Lifting Services, was drafted in to provide lifting services to a rig which had been brought into port for essential maintenance.
The rig had a limited number of access points, but our experienced and innovative team were able to find a way in.
We used a 450 tonne Grove crane to carefully remove the rig’s seven tonne crown block. This wasn’t easy as the crane had to reach over the 53m high derrick, and that meant a hook height of 114m was needed.
Our team’s solution was to put the Grove crane on a 160 tonne ballast, use a 54.6m main boom and 73m of luffing jib. This enabled it to lift 8.5 tonnes at a 65m radius – one of the heaviest lifts on this rig. |
