AINSCOUGH CRANE HIRE SPECIAL PROJECTS SPEAKS AT NUCLEAR LIFTING CONFERENCE 2018

staff member

The IMECHE Nuclear Lifting Conference held on 29th November 2018, was the only event of its kind dedicated to lifting projects in the industry. The event explored long-term strategies, unique safety cases, and cost-effective design that meets regulated standards. Furthermore, delegates understood how best to conduct complex and high-risk lifts on decommissioning, operational and new build nuclear sites.

Delegates heard talks to discover engineering solutions to the technical and environmental challenges facing those conducting high-risk lifts at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ seventh Nuclear Lifting Seminar held in Manchester.

A range of unique presentations and workshops included Ainscough Crane Hire, Office of Nuclear Regulation, Sellafield Ltd and EDF Energy. Delegates networked with engineering thought leaders in nuclear lifting strategies and safety cases.

Sam Pitt of Ainscough Crane Hire Special Projects presented the importance of thorough lift planning on nuclear sites said: ‘expert engineering solutions in complex and high risk lifting operations necessitate early involvement in the design phase’. Sam went on to explain the challenges and considerations of lifting operations on nuclear sites, significance of 3-dimensional drawing techniques in effective lift planning and the importance of suitably prepared ground.

Nuclear lifting brought together experts and delegates through panel discussion to understand the role of asset maintenance and human factors in a nuclear lifting environment. Hearing about how to lift safely in complex and high-risk lifting operations at power generation, decommissioning and military sites.
