WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM BIG BROTHER

crane lift

Ainscough Crane Hire’s Manchester Depot has completed a lift of a mobile crane from within the walls of a residential development on the outskirts of Manchester city centre.

The smaller crane a Liebherr LTM 1040 has been operating on site for 17 months building Roof Gardens, a prestigious development of 22 apartments and 49 townhouses conceived and developed by DeTrafford.

Owing to the construction schedule and the limited space around the development site, the walls of the development were built up around the crane surrounding it on each side. Before the final roof sections were completed, the crane had to be removed and the only available method was to lift it out with another crane.

The task was delivered by a Liebherr LTM 1250 which completed the lift over two hours.

Manchester Depot Manager, Gary Rathburn said: “Lifting a crane out of a site like this is not an everyday occurrence but there was sufficient space and access to complete the lift safely. It did make for a rather unusual sight and was something a little different for the teams involved.

“We’ve been working at this development for a number of months and it has been great to watch the site develop and be part of one of the highest quality developments currently on site in the city.”

Roof Gardens is located on Ellesmere Street, on the southern fringe of Manchester city centre, close to the A56 Chester Road.
