Ainscough’s Heavy Cranes Division has assembled a tower crane at one of Liverpool’s biggest construction sites, the £1 billion Paddington Village project.

The team used a Liebherr LTM1500 to carefully piece together the steel lattice boom of the WK6017 tower crane, which is managed by specialist operator HTC Wolffkran.

The crane itself has a height under hook of 72.0m and a jib length of 40.0m. It will play a key role in building a new £35 million facility for Liverpool International College which will provide a home away from home for international students including a café, Knowledge Hub, study booths and social area with game and study zones.

The building is part of the Paddington Village project, a landmark extension to the city’s Knowledge Quarter. Beginning in summer 2017, it is part of Liverpool City Council’s vision to build on the city’s life science sector, and will work to create more jobs and increase the city’s international reputation.

Plans for Paddington Village will see the 30-acre site to the east of the city centre developed into three plots; Paddington North, Paddington Central and Paddington South. One part of the landmark extension Liverpool City Council is also entering into a design, build, maintenance and servicing contract to create a Combined Heat and Power plant to deliver a sustainable heating and power source for the buildings and businesses on site.

Andrew Winter, operations director of the heavy cranes division said “Executing this lift was all down to the planning work that took place before we got onsite. Our role is all about devising ways around any issues we’re presented with, and with this project there were major time constraints with us having to close down a road to complete the work. I’m happy to say the team worked tirelessly to make sure everything went quickly and efficiently.

“The scale of this project makes us proud to have been involved in the early stages and we look forward to seeing the finished village and everything it will bring to Liverpool as a city.”
