Sam Pitt, one of Ainscough Crane Hire’s rising stars, is to speak at Crane Safety 2019, an event which will bring together key players from the industry and beyond to discuss the latest developments in ensuring safety when working with cranes.

The event takes place at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers on 17th September, and will see presentations and discussions that explore what crane operators and manufacturers can do to avoid incidents, reduce risk and improve safety within existing budgets.

Sam is a project engineer who has worked at Ainscough since the summer of 2016 and is based at the Stockton depot. Since joining he has played a key role in dealing with technical and commercial matters for large project work within Ainscough’s Special Projects team.

After being awarded an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Teesside University in 2012 Sam began his career with Mammoet UK where he developed his main area of expertise in the transport and heavy lift sector.

Sam’s presentation at the event is on the topic of Considerations in Lifting on Onshore Wind Farms, and will explore issues such as the effects of high gale-wind on cranes and how to effectively plan man basket operations and will draw upon Sam’s experience on projects such as Burton Wold in Northamptonshire and CEFN Croes in Ceredigion, Wales. The presentation will demonstrate how the company’s policy framework of Make the Safe Choice informs every aspect of Ainscough’s operations in order to secure the safety of its people, its customers and members of the public.

Make the Safe Choice is about engaging all colleagues in following a safe system of work, awareness and understanding of potential dangers, and responding appropriately. In practice it means that if employees are ever in doubt, they are empowered and expected to stop and make the safe choice about what they are doing.

Sam commented: “Crane Safety 2019 promises to be an excellent event, and I’m honoured to be presenting alongside so many leading industry figures. The wind sector can present a variety of challenges for crane operators, but at Ainscough we’ve developed a rigorous set of systems underpinned by our Make the Safe Choice that allows us to undertake our work to the highest possible standards of safety. I look forward to discussing our approach to safety on wind farms in more detail, while also finding out more about different aspects of our industry during the rest of the day’s programme.”
