Design and Planning Technician, Taylor McLeish, has been at Ainscough’s Ossett Depot since January 2023. We thought it was time to catch up with one of Ainscough’s most promising young employees…
When I joined Ainscough in early 2023, I was fresh out of Sheffield Hallam University and keen to work using elements of my university course I’d enjoyed, using design and modelling technology such as CAD. I saw the design and planning technician ad come up from Ainscough and I immediately had a keen interest. I really enjoyed the interview and got a good sense of what is fantastic team, really concentrated on professionalism, learning and understanding.
Being a design and planning technician is a challenging job. Precision and attention to detail is central to lift success and forms an integral part of what sets Ainscough apart from other companies. Throughout my time here I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredible colleagues who through their wealth of knowledge and experience have taught me so much.
I struggle when asked about my favourite job here, as several spring to mind. My attitude is centred around a good attitude to bettering myself, so I often favour the complex jobs that require learning or upskilling. One that springs to mind is the M621 job, a new smart motorway lift, that required road closures, tight constraints on site, level checks, complex matting structures and 8-10 lifts. It had to be right, and through a methodical approach, we managed to get it right.
As someone who is constantly looking for ways to innovate, I’m really pleased to be working with Ainscough to help introduce 3D CAD modelling software, something I want to pioneer and help implement as a company-wide strategy. Other ambitions include becoming an Appointed Person, I feel it’s a natural progression for me, I’m interested in the technical nitty-gritty, and this allows me to continue that at a higher level and with more responsibility.
Away from cranes, I’m really into my sport. Growing up, I competed in Karate at a national level. I’ve got my professional boxing debut coming at the end of the year, too. Combat sports have really taught me that mindset, discipline, and readiness to learn are so important to success.
