This practical based course enables workers to safely access conventional-design wind turbines using fixed vertical ladders and personal fall protection equipment, to evacuate from a wind turbine and perform ladder rescues using a fixed-rate decent device.

This syllabus delivers the Safe Working at Heights module of the Global Wind organisation ‘Basic Safety Training’ standard.

Practices for rescue should be carried out at least annually and a refresher course must be undertaken within 2 years. The use of customer sites will be subject to an assessment and the audit requirements of GWO. Delegates must be medically fit to perform the practical elements of this course and must sign a medical disclaimer to that effect

    • Knowledge of global and UK legislation, standards and the Renewable UK Wind Turbine Safety Rules
    • Selection and use of personal fall protection equipment
    • Fundamentals of risk assessment and typical hazard scenarios
    • Principles of safe Working at Height in wind turbines
    • Basic principles of wind turbine evacuation and rescue
    • Climbing to a height of 15 metres using installed fall arrest equipment on fixed vertical ladders
    • Work positioning on fixed ladders
    • Emergency evacuation using a fixed-rate descent device
    • GWO ladder rescue techniques
