Ainscough Crane Hire has been recognised by the Sunday Times as being one of the Best Places to Work in the UK.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work in the UK for 2024, powered by WorkL, is a nationwide workplace survey that celebrates Britain’s top employers. It includes organisations across lots of different industries and of any sizes, and acknowledges how well employees are engaged with their employer and what it’s like to work there.

To achieve a high overall engagement score, Ainscough had to score well across WorkL’s six-step framework. Employees were surveyed on questions covering six key drivers of engagement: reward and recognition; information sharing; empowerment; instilling pride; job satisfaction, and wellbeing.

Ainscough’s subsequent score netted the crane hire firm a prestigious slot in the ‘Big Organisation’ category, alongside Ainscough’s owners Blackstone and household names such as Ericsson and De Vere Hotels.

Commenting on Ainscough’s inclusion, the report said: “Apprenticeships, vocational training, on-the-job learning and e-courses take careers to new heights at this Wigan-based business. Founded with six small cranes and a van in 1976, it has a network of 30 locations and more than 400 cranes, making it one of the largest independent heavy haulage fleets in the UK. Discounted gym membership, health classes and mental health first-aiders lift wellbeing among the 819 employees.”

Darren Thompson, HR director, Ainscough Crane Hire, said: “It’s a real honour for Ainscough to be included in The Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work. We not only pride ourselves on being the UK’s leading lifting solutions company, but also a place where people of all backgrounds can enjoy a rewarding career that allows them to achieve their potential.

“This achievement is ultimately a testament to everyone in the business who helps make Ainscough a friendly, open and inclusive place to work. We’re very proud and look forward to continuing to support our people in every aspect of their work here.”
