Ray received the accolade for safely completing a complex lifting operation during the annual month-long maintenance shut down at Dow Corning’s manufacturing facility in Barry, South Wales in September and October.
Health and safety is crucial to the multi-million pound maintenance programme which involves multiple contractors working on site to repair and replace heavy plant and equipment in a time-critical operation.
Dow Corning presents gold, silver and bronze safety awards each day of the operation to individuals who demonstrate exemplary commitment to ensuring the delivery of high health and safety standards.
Ray, who has worked for Ainscough for 25 years, received his award – plus a £75 voucher – from Dow Corning shut down manager Derek Stephens in recognition of his dedication to high safety standards.
Dow Corning maintenance team leader, Neil Sweet, said: “Ray safely lifted in one of our re-boilers, which is a critical and complex operation, and meant he spent virtually all day in the crane manoeuvring this equipment into position.”
Neil added: “Ray is a credit to Ainscough and was always extremely helpful during our shut down programme.”
Paul Sullivan, manager of Ainscough’s Cardiff depot, where Ray is based, said: “Ray played a key role in the safe and successful completion and this major operation. We had 25 cranes on site and the programme was running day and night at its peak.
“Due to the large number of contractors on site, the health and safety element of operations must be carefully managed and Ray’s committed approach was clearly valued. He embodies the Make the Safe Choice ethos and we are very pleased his efforts have been recognised by the customer in this way.”
