Fresh from his award win at the National Apprenticeship Awards, we sat down with Ainscough’s IT Support Analyst, Mihai Pal, to find out about his role, his ambitions, and what led him to his award…
I joined Ainscough in December of 2023 as an apprentice IT Support Analyst. Following a stint in warehouse logistics, I didn’t want to keep tackling the night shifts, so I decided it was time for a change. During the interview they made me feel confident that I would be well supported and encouraged in my learning, and the head office wasn’t far from my house!
Starting my 18-month apprenticeship with Wigan & Leigh College, I was shown the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSB’s) needed for my role. Over the course I completed reports and projects that helped build my understanding of IT systems, CPUs and GPUs.
I only found out that my work as an apprentice had been recognised for the Digital & and Technological Apprentice award when my manager, Terry Tumulty, informed me that I’d been shortlisted following his anonymous nomination. I had to dust off my suit and tie and was even more stunned when they read my name out as the winner.
The award doesn’t just belong to me, though. It belongs to my colleagues, my manager and the Ainscough family who have all helped me learn the ropes, everyone has played a part in my success.
I’ve since been offered the opportunity to start full-time at the beginning of May, following the completion of my apprenticeship in April. As a full-time Support Analyst, I deal with all types of IT queries, security issues, and company hardware – I’m looking forward to continuing with the team and progressing onwards.
Away from work, I’m a keen gamer (that helped stimulate my interest in working in IT), and following moving over here from Eastern Romania, I’ve been enjoying discovering the beautiful natural scenery the UK has. Based near Standish, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Peak and Lake District.
