DAN EVANS: MY AINSCOUGH STORY

Although still relatively new to the crane industry, Dan has seen it all in his career to date. We sat down to find out a little bit more about our Cardiff Depot’s Manager.

I was 16 when I joined the army as a junior leader. I spent five years there before injury forced me to find another career; I chose distribution, lorries and warehouses. Over several decades as Hermes’ (now Evri) area manager of three depots in the Midlands, I oversaw the transition of delivery days from 7, to 5, to 3, to the same-day delivery you get today!

Moving on from the Midlands,  I applied my transferrable skills to a similar role in fine foods and pharmaceuticals, but before I knew it, I was back at Evri in 2022, to accommodate another move. This time, I had the opportunity to manage six depots in the East, from Leeds to Peterborough.

I took a sabbatical after a year or so – a journey to discover what I really wanted to do. I found a job ad in the paper for Ainscough – I’d always had an interest in cranes and heavy machinery, so it felt right up my alley. Anyway, I didn’t expect much out of the phone interview, but a friendly phone call with Lyndsay Bamber resulted in a good feeling, and eventually a job offer!

I started as Cardiff Depot Manager on July 1, 2024, and have felt nothing but welcomed since. Ainscough is a company with fantastic ethos, a can-do attitude and a warm willingness to help whenever possible. They empower their employees, back their decisions, and live health and safety. No question is deemed stupid.

The team in Cardiff are small, but tightly knit and talented, each with their own set of skills – and I can say, they’re all the type you can have a pint with!

Away from cranes, I’m a lifer at the Cardiff City Stadium (for better and for worse), I have four boys, and a month-old granddaughter, Florence, who is already my whole world! I’m a seasoned traveller and I’m excited to visit Scandinavia later this year, and Japan in 2027.

I would like to personally thank Dan Foweraker, Lee Cakebread, Stuart Redding, Tony Arnold and Chris Willis, as it is these exceptional people I owe my first amazing, fantastic year to. They are not just great leaders, but great people as well, who have made the journey as easy as possible – and with a bit of fun and laughter along the way.
