This practical based course enables workers to perform basic first aid and lifesaving procedures within a wind turbine environment.

This syllabus delivers the First Aid module of the Global Wind organisation ‘Basic Safety Training’ standard.

A full refresher course must be undertaken within 2 years. The use of customer sites will be subject to an assessment and the audit requirements of GWO. Delegates must be medically fit to perform the practical elements of this course and must sign a medical disclaimer to that effect.

Course Content
- Understand the importance of safely and correctly carrying out First Aid in accordance with the legislative requirements of their geographic location and according to European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
- Identify and explain normal function of the human body, normal signs and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illness.
- Understand the correct order of management in emergency situations in a wind turbine.
- Correct use of lifesaving First Aid using the Primary survey, Airway Breathing Circulation, Circulation Airway Breathing (ABC, CAB).
- Correct use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
- Correct use of Ordinary First Aid, the Secondary Survey.
- Correct use of First Aid equipment in First Aid scenarios.
Prerequisites
- Delegates shall possess valid BST/BSTR certificates.
